Pollinator Garden on a Steep Slope

Scroll

A West Hartford couple had a difficult, steep bank in the back of their property that had become overgrown with weeds. They wanted to replace it with an all-native, pollinator-friendly garden alongside an outdoor eating area. PWG designed and installed a colorful mixed border composed of drought-tolerant perennials, shrubs, and trees. To prevent erosion during installation, PWG covered the entire slope with jute mesh fastened with biodegradable pegs. As the mesh decomposed the plant roots took hold, preventing erosion on this steep site. This garden has not required any supplemental water since establishment.
